Hi,
I'm trying to find the country of origin for my surname. Following the
German Immigration my ancestors used Felty prior to that was Velte and the original immigrant spelled the name Vallentin. They traveled from Rotterdam to England then to the USA. However, I can not leave a stone unturned since I've learned the name has Swedish origins. I've also found a large number of today's population around Luxembourg region spelling the name Velte. The immigrants were classified as Palatinates from Germany having origins from the Palatine region of Germany however, how could that be if the name is swedish? I can't say the country of origin was Swedish,
German, Luxembourg, Prussia,or Bavaria without finding out where this name and the people actually descend from. Are there any linguists out there that would know and could show evidence????
