At first I was all "totally Petal. Petal has a quirky sort of respectability and restraint to it, and puts me in mind of woodland fairytales and animals with good manners.
Rainbow is so brash and obvious and tacky, it's a
Lisa Frank day-glo disaster". But dwelling on
Rainbow's outrageousness actually made me fond of it. It's so unapologetically itself. It's like a punk rock unicorn. There's something about Petal that almost seems embarrassed of itself, like it comes with a built-in apology. I respect
Rainbow's preposterousness.
Also as a North American, the word "petal" in my accent is not nearly so sweet and pretty as the word itself looks. Saying it out loud: "PED-ull"...it's just not pleasing and brings to mind car parts or animals peeing on rugs. Though I also mispronounce
Rainbow regularly - it always comes out like "Raimbow" - it's still nicer than poor flatfooted Petal.
