I may be wrong, this is just my personal feeling, I guess, but I've never thought of it as being international. It seems very Spanish to me. It's okay, but not something I would feel comfortable using.

it is ...International. There was an Anita (it might have been spelled a bit different, but it was pronounced just like Anita) in high school with me whose family had come from India.
My SIL's mother-in-law is black and her name is Anita.
Anita Roddick was British and founded the Body Shop.
I think it was Keith Richards, or somebody from that band, who famously had a girlfriend from Sweden named Anita Pallenberg.

It's also not unheard of in the Netherlands, especially among middle aged women.

And it's common in Sweden, among women who are 50-70.
