In that case, it would be a surname, http://surnames.behindthename.com/submit/submit.php .
If I recall correctly, the -ini ending would be comparable to the -s ending in Edwards or Roberts (also Davis and Harris). That would make Volpini to mean "Sons/children/descendants of the Fox."
