[Opinions] Louis & Eliana
It's a Catholic tradition to use names from saints. I'm a huge fan of Thomas Merton and would like to honor him, even if he isn't a saint. The problem is Thomas is out for a variety of reasons. Thomas Merton chose the name Louis when he become a monk. What do you think of Louis? I would pronounce it lou-is and not lou-ee. Thoughts?
I doubt my husband will even consider it but I thought I'd get opinions.
Also, thoughts on Eliana? I love that it's Hebrew and I love the meaning, but it has such a trendy sound that I'm not sure about it. Judith Eliana?
The moral of Pete's story is: No matter what you step in, keep walking along and singing your song... because it's all good.

I love Louis! I think it would be a great idea to use as an honouring name. Louis and Miriam are ok as siblings - they don't seem overly matchy or a perfect fit, but good nonetheless.
That's the same problem I have with Eliana as well - too trendy sounding. Using it as a middle name could solve that problem, it certainly is refreshing in the middle name spot! Judith Eliana is good in flow, but the names are really mismatched in style in my opinion.

Louis is nice. It's not a favorite of mine but I'd be pleased to meet a baby Louis. Lewis makes your preferred pronunciation clearer but I'm kind of meh on how it looks. Miriam and Louis sound great as siblings.
Like you, I absolutely love the meaning and sound of Eliana but don't love how it would blend in with Ella/Ellie/Elaina/Alaina/Aliyah/ten thousand other trendy girls' names. Judith Eliana is okay, but I find the juxtaposition of the very clunky Judith with the very girly Eliana to be almost comical.

Do you know which way Thomas Merton pronounced Louis?
(If I was choosing the name specifically to honor him, but then found out he pronounced it differently, that would bother me)...
I like Louis, either way, but unless someone corrects me, I always pronounce it Lou-ee.
Eliana is pretty. I like it more than Elinor, I think. It pairs well with Judith.
But yeah, El- names are trendy.

Ditto the pronunciation issue.
Which is why I'm so wishy-washy on it. :-/ I haven't quite figured out how he pronounced it.
