[Surname] Ranieri surname origin
I am looking for some information about the origins of my surname, Ranieri. I know its meaning but am unsure of its original use as a surname, i.e. when, where, who etc. I have read little bits here and there but found several different stories.
I would be grateful if anyone could help. Thanks.

Since Ranieri comes from Germanic Raginhari, as you say you know, it is simply a given name that became a family name as so many others did. Cognates exist in various other European languages including English Rayner, French Ré(g)nier, German and Dutch Reiner.
