[Opinions] Re: Violet or Autumn
in reply to a message by Natalie36
I don't think the season of birth needs to have anything to do with it. The impression I get from names that suit seasons, is a reference to positive aspects of the seasons, not a literal connection between person and season.
I find Autumn to be a bit ugly said out loud, as in my accent, it's "oddum" - although it's a nice concept to use for a name, and it's namey enough. It never reminded me of "autism," but I could see how it might do that a little. It wouldn't be any worse than "violent" for Violet - another thing I've heard people associate, but that I don't think of myself. To me, the downside of Violet is the idiom "shrinking violet."
I like Violet, though, and I don't think it's too old-fashioned, nor is it at all unsuitable for a child born while the violets aren't blooming.
I should have read queenv's answer before I posted - as I've pretty much dittoed her!
