It might not be a nickname for anything. My dad calls me by a nickname that has nothing to do with my name. It happens.

I had an aunt Pat, whose name was actually Elsie. Reason why? Lost in the mists of time.

Aaaand..my cousin , Patrica, is named for our aunt Pat.
