[Opinions] Madison
What are your thoughts about this name? I know many want nothing more than to strangle the name almost or the movie that placed it into popularity as I do and others simply adore it (otherwise it wouldn't be so high on the charts) the name Madison personally never appealed to me. Probably has to do with the fact that I had bad expirences with the name. The nickname Maddie or Maddy or however you wish to spell it, sounds so...I don't know. There's something irritating about it. I also don't care that the name bluntly ends in SON (the name meaning SON of Maude) most son ending names are for boys.
Allison\Alison on the top of my head is about the only son ending name that I actually prefer on a girl even though I don't care for the son ending (Though changing the ending to like syn or sin would look butchered a bit)
I'm personally just sick of the name (regardless of it being used on a girl, a boy or as a surname) With the new and updated 2014 top 10 names, Madison is the only name I dislike. The other names I either like or can completely tolerate. Though I am SO thankful that Jayden dropped off and was replaced by James. I personally find James laughably better. A classic compared to a modern, trendy, invented type of name. (Maybe the Aidan, Hayden, c\kayden, brayden, jayden etc trend is coming to a close?) Hopefully. So if you dislike Madison as well or just bluntly don't care for it, what other names do you wish would replace it? Similar names or some name that you LOVE and would love to see at #9 in the charts

Madison is the name of my best friend since nursery so I guess I'm kinda bias, but I think the name is okay. If I didn't know my friend I would probably dislike the name.

Madison is pretty neutral to me. It seems like a very bland and uninspired named, but it's not terrible. When I hear someone has named their child Madison I just think Meh, whatever.

Don't like Maddy as a nickname, but don't mind Sunny. Yes, I would like to strangle Madison. I MUCH prefer Madeleine, it's so gorgeous and classy, with Lina or Ellie as possible nicknames. However I hate all other spellings (like, Maddyllyne? Are you serious? In Wales we would pronounce that like 'Ma - thuh - llun', with 'll' being pronounced like halfway between 'l' and 's'.
I like Alison, it's always seemed feminine to me, maybe because it's my gran's name.
I used to love Aidan until it become trendy. My cousin's name is Aidan, actually.

I don't have the energy to hate Madison anymore. If I were to choose a name to be up that high I suppose it would be Matilda since I think Mattie vs. Maddy makes them close to interchangeable.

I hate Madison and there are many many names I'd like to see replace it, and what they all have in common is that they are true feminine names and not a surname.

I hate Madison and all -son names for girls except Alison which of course is really a -on name like Marion.
I would like to see Madison replaced by a classic M name like Margaret which is undeservedly in the doldrums.

I don't really like Madison. But I think I understand what its appeal is. It's like a Madeline-Alison smush, with the spiffy/spunky air of a surname name. It sounds (sounded 20 years ago) new, but yet familiar, and the sound has been fashionable. When my daughter was a baby, we knew another baby named Matison (prn Madison) and her nn was Mati (prn Maddie), and that sort of let me warm up to the name. But when I first saw Madison getting popular my inclination was to think it was terribly bad.Of the top 10 for 2014, I think I like Ava the least. I don't think it's bad, though - I just can't help picturing an Ava as a bossy, vain person. I guess that'll last until I meet a real Ava? I've also never liked Abigail, but I can appreciate it. What I hate most about it is the nn Abby / Abbie / Abi etc. Just don't like the sound. It's doggie. I like Gail. Gail is great.I am wondering, whatever happened to Emerson and Cadence? Flashes in the pan? I thought they'd take off more than they did.I could live without ever seeing the name Liam again. I also don't hate it, but it has no appeal for me. I didn't mind Jayden, because I like the name Jay, but I'd prefer Jaden over Jayden.I'd love to see Victoria in Ava's place and Audrey in Abigail's. It kinda appalls me that Aubrey and Avery are more popular than Audrey is.And I'd like to see Henry switch spots with Liam. Also - why not! - Sebastian with William, and Lucas with Jacob, and Nathan / Nathaniel with Ethan.

I don't mind it. The -son thing never bothered me, since Alison is used for girls, and that ends in -son. I don't know, it's overused, for sure, but I think there are plenty of names more deserving of hate than Madison. It's inoffensive.

Honestly I kind of like Madison in a GP sort of way. I wouldn't seriously use it because:
a. It is way too common
b. I hate the nickname "Maddy"
c. I don't care for the meaning.
