[Opinions] Duncan
Visions of Duncan are dancing in my head. I have always liked the unapologetic dorky-ness of this name, but I know it's an acquired taste. What do you think of it, what would you put in the middle name spot, and which sibling names would you pair it with? You can come up with as many as you want, male or female. I don't care.

Duncan was my paternal grandfather's name. (I never knew him, he died quite young.)And his middle name was Hector, as was my father's.
Both names were common-ish where I grew up, in an area originally populated by Scottish immigrants. Hector was, I think, used to honour the ship "Hector" that had brought many of the immigrants from Scotland.
so, answering your question, yes, I like Duncan.

I acquired as much taste for it as I'll ever have (moderate, but it's not a favorite) in high school. I heard there was a new guy and I heard his name was Duncan, which made me expect that he'd be a dork. But, he wasn't. He was good looking and outgoing and nice and funny. I didn't have a crush on him or anything, but it changed my perception of the name Duncan. I don't think of "dunking."

Duncan is my ggm's maiden name. It would go perfectly with our Scottish surname, however, dh doesn't care for it (he thinks Dunkin' Donuts and Duncan Hines who was a real person so that's not a big deal, imo). I still like it though it's not one of my top faves. It's very handsome.
Off the top of my head, I'd pair it with something Scottish such as Duncan Alastair (or Duncan Alexander), Duncan Ross, Duncan Somerled, Duncan Wallace. It's not the easiest name to pair with!

I really don't like this name, even as a surname. It just sounds like a person or object getting dunked into something thick and gloopy.
I like Duncan. It's so warm and friendly, like a mug of hot cocoa with too many marshmallows in it has come to life.
I'd pair Duncan with sibs who are similarly cuddle-inducing for me, like Theodore, Wallace, Walter, George, Annabelle, Toby, Caroline, Tucker, Mabel, Cody, Thomasina, Jonah, Jacob, Kirby, Rudy, Dulcie, Gideon, Homer, Lucy, Wilfred and Tabitha. Warm sweater names.
Middle names, hmm
Duncan Idaho lololol
Duncan Albert
Duncan Alfred
Duncan Leopold
Duncan Thomas
Duncan Otto
Duncan Victor
Duncan Maxwell
Duncan Algernon
Duncan Rory
Duncan Cormac
Duncan Isaac
Duncan Alexander

It reminds me of Shakespeare and donuts.
Ugh, I hate this name.
Duncan, for me, is irredeemably ugly. It always gives me the image of short fat boy forever wearing muddy gumboots, and forever picking his nose.
It also makes me think of thick black tarmac that hasn't quite dried.

I reminds me of chimpanzees.
I watched a movie when I was younger called Dunston Checks In, about a monkey in a hotel.
I know that Duncan is a different name... but that is the first image that pops into my head. That and Duncan Hines cake mix... which is actually a plus for the name since those cakes are delish!
As a legitimate name... I find it refreshing. It is a but of a dud at first glance, but it is also a bit charming. The dorky but sweet vibe is pretty obvious (to me).
It's actually so unencumbered by common use that it matches tons of middle names:
Duncan Adelmar
Duncan Travis
Duncan William
Duncan Blaise
Duncan Ezekiel
Duncan Mortimer
Duncan Clark
Duncan Oliver James
Duncan Orion
Duncan Leander
Duncan Westley
Duncan Alastaire
Duncan Cody
etc...
Duncan would likely have brothers named Linus and Emmett, as well as a few sisters Ramona, Audrey and Margaret.

It's ok. I've nothing against it but it's not a name I like enough to use.

Hmm, Duncan is deliciously nerdy. I never really thought of it as a first name (it's always been a last name for me) but if I were to use it, I'd probably use it as a first name since like you said, it's so unapologetic and seems like a disservice to throw it in the middle name spot.
For some reason I want to give Duncan's sister's hideous first names, even though I don't find Duncan that unappealing.
How about:
Duncan
Angus
Penelope
