I agree with everyone else about it being Very Les Mis, but if you don't actually mind having the association there all the time I think it's a nice enough name. Nina could be a good nickname.

It's so much of a "one character" name, I have a hard time imagining it on a real person. Even if I manage to ignore "Les Mis," I don't find Eponine attractive. It reminds me of things like epi-pens and epilators.

It's so entirely Les Mis that I don't know if it's usable. I don't think it's ever used anywhere other than Les Mis either so there's no other association to kind of balance it out. I wouldn't use it.
If I met an Eponine I'd want to be like, "Eponine, come my dear, Eponine, let me see you. You look very well in that new little blue hat..."
And every other time anyone sings Eponine!!

Nicknames... Pony! I read a book once where a girl could Ursula was nicknamed Pony which I didn't get. But you could go Eponine --> Pony.

Love it, everyone would associate it with Les Mis though. Good thing about it is that its a French name which is basically pronounced the same in English so won't be butchered.
My favourite nickname for it is Ponine.
