[Opinions] Re: Frances
Frances is a charming, happy, no-fuss name. I like names that could be described as "pretty and sturdy," like Martha, Marjorie, Olive, or Helen, and Frances fits right in. Only a negative family association keeps me from really loving it. I even like its nicknames, especially Frankie. Francis for a boy would also get a thumbs up from me, though I prefer Franklin and Frank.I think Frances will make a comeback of sorts, but I don't think it's destined to climb back into the top 10 anytime soon. It appeals to hipsters, nerds, and namers who like uncommon, old-fasioned names (I'm 2 out of 3, here). It could get a boost from Pope Francis. Even Drew Barrymore's second daughter could spark interest in Frances if people think Frankie is cute. FWIW, Frances, though still uncommon, is now more popular than it has been since 2005. Early stages of a revival, maybe? We'll be able to tell in a few years.
