I like it quite a lot; not enough to use it, but I'd enjoy meeting a small one.Unusually for me, I like Francis about the same as Frances. Usually one gender leads the other - Stephen far ahead of Stephanie, for instance; Georgina rather than George; Justine yesyesyes, Justin nonoyuckouch. What I don't like are the elaborations, like Francine or Francesca.Was Frances ever so popular that it bombed? As Linda did, and Carol etc? Or has it always been used, just not much?

I'd say it bombed. It was in the top 10 between 1912 and 1924.
And it was in the top 25 between 1901-1938.
