[Facts] Fleshing out the background of the name "Ivelisse"
There are many posters online that claim that the name Ivelisse has been in use since the 1960s. I'm here to say that there are instances of the name long before that.I come from Puerto Rico, and I'm a third-generation Ivelisse: my mother (b. 1947) and grandmother (b. 1926) also bear the name. The family lore is that my grandmother's spinster aunt found the name in a French novel she was reading. While it's within the realm of possibility that the name in that novel was spelled "Yvelise," in our family's case the inspiration wasn't the oft-cited 1950s story "Yvelise devant l'amour."Some in my family have claimed that my grandmother was the first Ivelisse in Puerto Rico. I've never confirmed that—just offering it up as a possible clue. I'd love to find out more about the name Ivelisse (or Yvelise) during the 1920s.
