I never really liked this name much but recently it has started to grow on me (as have many others). It seems to me that while it is a well known and easily pronounced name, it is not terribly popular (#85 in 2004). Any thoughts?

Well, I have a friend named Cody, and he is a computer wizard (we joke about him being the next Bill Gates), so ever since I've become friends with him I've associated the name with intellect and nerdiness (not that that's a bad thing; my group of friends pride themselves on being nerds)

Cody is an adorable name that just doesn't age well. I went to school with two guys named Cody and both of them now go by their middle names. While the name use to have that cowboy feel, it's now just very babyish and cutesy, plus too many people have dogs named Cody.

I like Cody for a girl, which I think I could pull of since it's unused for either sex where I live. On a boy, it's just OK. Very cowboy sounding.

I'm not really into the cowboy names at all. And I just don't care much for the sound of this one. It's kind of childish sounding.

#85 is still too popular if you ask me. i also hate the name. it's ok for a baby or a soap opera character but not a grown man.

I grew up knowing a lot of girls and boys named Cody, so I don't know if I could ever give a completely objective opinion of the name. It just seems overused to me, even if it has dropped in popularity in recent years.

I think it's becoming dated. All the Cody's I've met are between 10 and 16. And I don't think it matures very well, I can't see it on anyone other than a child.

I LOVE Cody! I know it might be a bit dated to some, or a bit childish to others, but I just love it. I had a little boy in my daycare class and his old teacher called him Coco, lol. He was the cutest thing ever!

My impression is that it sounds cutely, theatrically butch. That's part of the image of most surname names to me, Cody being one of the defining names of the whole trend.

I mean, it's not really bad, it doesn't give me a really "bad" impression. But my image of Cody is not a grown, urban, sober, modest, college educated, conformist man who securely possesses any of what's usually considered social status in urban life. It just sounds sort of stylized and "fancy" to me; it has an image that glorifies and overstates a playful, boyish, tough, vain masculinity (reminiscent of, say, a country-western singer).

Just one perspective. I hope it makes sense.
