[Opinions] Lucilla
So I was watching the great movie 'Gladiator' yesterday (again, even after al those years). Eventually I didn't care for the characters names, but now the name Lucilla is stuck in my head (sister of the Roman emperor Commodus FYI). I actually quite like it.
What is your opinion on Lucilla? Could it be used nowadays?
And what are some other Ancient Roman names you like / you still find usable today?
Both feminine and masuline names are welcome.
° We are but older children dear, who fret to find our bedtime near ° Lewis Carroll

I think it would work today, though I much prefer the spelling Lucila. (this is from someone who's never seen Gladiator)
I like Lucilla and always have. Much nicer than whiney Lucille and frilly Priscilla! Since it would probably shorten to Lucy, that might be a consideration, but then I love Lucy and almost used it for my first DD.
I don't like Julia or Marcelle or Tertia. Justine is good, if it counts, but not Justin. Maybe Justinian as a mn! I prefer Marcus to Mark and Julian to Julius.
Also, some less authentic than others:
Adrian (not Hadrian); Antonia; Cecily (not Cecilia or Caecilia); Celia (not Caelia); Horatio (not Horatius in spite of the Bridge); Marinus rather than Marina; Marius, somewhat; and Paul but not the fem forms.

I think Lucilla could easily be used today. It's got that flowery feel to it that's popular with girl's names, plus it's similar to Lucy and Lucia but not as grown up sounding as Lucinda. Personally I don't like it much though, I like 'luc' and 'illa' on their own, but together it doesn't sound very pleasant... almost bacterial sounding.
I think a lot of Roman name are still usable today honestly, because many are still in use or variations of them are still in use, which makes them more accessible in general imo
