I always think of the English journalist Sir Peregrine Worsthorne - and it is a very posh name, as well as slightly amusing (Smollett's novel "The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle). I prefer Per-uh-grin as the pronunciation.
Because I don't like surnames or nicknames/diminutives as first names I would use it as a way to get to Perry as a nn (I love Perry Mason as portrayed in the old black and white series by Raymond Burr!)
Another posh P name (though spoiled for me by Piers Morgan) is Piers - have liked it ever since reading "Piers Plowman" at school. A friend who also fell in love with it named her son Piers.
