My great-uncle passed away at the end of January. I didn't know him and I also didn't go to the funeral (neither was I really invited), but my mum had brought an obituary card back with her from the funeral, so that's how I came across his name:
Aloisius Franciscus "Wies" (Wies is pronounced "Wees")
He was born in 1930.

Aloisius is pronounced al-oh-WEE-see-us around here, so that's where Wies might come from.

As I told la-petite-rachel, I'm from the Netherlands and my parents (and their ancestors) were all born near the Belgian border :)
