I saw in the news that Prince Harry allegedly is wanting to marry his girlfriend, Cressida Bonas.
I have never seen Cressida before, and I like it. What do you think of it?

Perfect for a princess
I once thought of using Cressida for myself (I thought the "Cressi-" was close to "Krissie") when I was younger. It's so fantastical and beautiful - the perfect princess name. But in the end I thought it was too storybook pretty for a real person. But I still really like it.

I knew it from Troilus and Cressida, but I always thought it had an unattractive sound.

I have known one. She was called Cressy, which is not so nice. The full name is striking and quite pretty, but a bit fancy for me.

Cressida is a 70s name to me - hope she isn't too old for Harry!
It does sound pretty. I've never met a living example, but I do have the same problem with it that I do with Cassandra - the obvious literary references are really discouraging. I prefer Cressida as a name, but at least Cassandra was a woman of integrity and not a conscience-free gold digger.

Cressida was my first babysitter's name. My mother says she didn't like her name and always went by Crissy, but I like it. I'm almost sorry to see it gaining so much exposure now.
Cressida's older brother was Orpheus. That was one hardcore sibset for rural Upstate New York back then. Probably still would be.

I really dislike it. It's a too pretty name visually, but I don't even think it's a pretty name at all sound wise. It's quite odd that way imo.

Shakespeare wrote a play Troilus and Cressida, based on a story during the Trojan War. It feels like a posh name that the average person wouldn't think about using.

My aunt swore she knew a family with two sisters named Chevette and Chevelle.
And there was somebody in Delaware who was big in the schools or something, she was often in the news. Her first name was Mercedes and her last name was the name of an Italian car company. I'm sure it was a married name, but still.

Chevrolet at least sounds nicer than Bendix. That was the name of a doll Ramona had in "Beezus and Ramona" named after the washing machine. (Do they still even have Bendix washers?) Anyway, Bendix met a grisly death when Ramona decided to act out Hansel and Gretel and put Bendix in the oven, in Beezus's birthday cake, to be exact.

ALL of those car names are infinitely better than the names of the two sisters in those books, Beatrice and Ramona. YUK. No wonder Ramona thought that Chevrolet was a beautiful name, going through life with a moniker like Ramona. If I were Ramona, I'd change my name legally to Chevrolet as soon as possible.

I think Ramona's kind of cute, but I don't like Beatrice at all. Beverly Cleary chose Ramona after she heard a neighbor calling out for "Ramona" one day. In the books, Beezus is named after her mother's sister, Aunt Beatrice. Ramona's middle name is the indisputably bad Geraldine.

LOL, I see I'm not the only one who has pondered Cressida today! It's strange ... and I think I like it. It makes me think of watercress and crescent although those aren't bad things at all. Mainly, I find it very intriguing and I'm equally intrigued by the possibility of a Princess Cressida or a Duchess Cressida (or whatever title she'd take upon marriage). :-) In fact, I'm pretty sure those wouldn't be her titles, however, in the US, that's likely what she'd be called.

If Harry isn't given a dukedom, his wife's title will be HRH Princess Henry of Wales (or, Princess Harry of Wales?). Otherwise they will be The Duke and Duchess of ____. But, you're right, the Americans will probably call her Princess/Duchess *Name* anyway!
