This name was somewhat popular in Halland (the area of Sweden I'm from) in the 19th century - oddly enough almost only there, 138 of the total 164 in the 1900 census were born in Halland - and I've been curious about it for a long time. I have reached the conclusion that its popularity was probably inspired by a Paridon Schuer, but I still wonder what the name's origin is. It seems it came to Sweden with the Dutchman Paridon van Hoorn in the early 17th century, and from Google I gather that Paridon or van Paridon is a Dutch surname, so I guess I should turn to the Netherlands for answers. Though it sounds more like it's from Greek mythology or something ... Does anyone know anything about this name?
