Winifred is one of my perennial favorites. I adore her passionately.

I love it, too, but I generally prefer the spelling Winnifred. It looks more complete, to me.

Sounds like a snooty rich old British woman to me.

I like the nicknames Winnie, Fred and Freddie. I love Fred(die) on a girl.

I love Fred and Freddy for a girl too :). Not keen on Winnie, too Pooh bear and Wonder Years for me (though I'll admit a fondness for both the bear and the show, just not the name).

In spite of my loving memories of a Winifred dachshund I knew as a child, I really don't find it attractive to the ear or the eye.My high-school science teacher was a Winifred, known as Winnie. A beautiful but unpleasant and incompetent woman. This doesn't help!

I quite like Winifred. I like the buttoned-up, old-fashioned feel it has. The only thing I don't particularly like is the possibility of Winnie as a nickname.

Mine isn't.
I see its appeal, sure. It's not bad.
But I don't see what makes it as nice as Mildred.
And anyway, nn Winnie seems so horsey and lame. =(
Without the nick I could learn to appreciate Winifred but still, I think it'd be kind of hyperromantic and self-conscious IRL.
