I think it's awful, sorry.
Besides the Ripley's Believe it or Not association, I just think "rip" is such an unpleasant sound in a name. (It kind of reminds me of slang for farts too -- he just "ripped" one.)
My old hairdresser named her daughter this, and I must say it's probably the only time I'd ever been left speechless by a name. Usually when I don't like one I can just mumble that's cute, or pretty or whatever, even if I don't mean it. But with Ripley, I literally couldn't get words out. It's probably the most unfeminine sounding name I can think of.
I think it's a little better on a boy, but I still think there are 1000s of better names out there.
