[Opinions] Ripley?
I'm starting to like Ripley as a MN, any FN suggestions?

It's alright with me. A little on the affected side because of the surnaminess (I mean it sounds like it's trying a little too hard to be colorful or swashbuckling or something), but I think the Sigourney Weaver character being called by her surname opened this name up for use pretty well (on either sex - it's less affected on a boy, IMO).

Thumbs down
I think it's awful, sorry.
Besides the Ripley's Believe it or Not association, I just think "rip" is such an unpleasant sound in a name. (It kind of reminds me of slang for farts too -- he just "ripped" one.)
My old hairdresser named her daughter this, and I must say it's probably the only time I'd ever been left speechless by a name. Usually when I don't like one I can just mumble that's cute, or pretty or whatever, even if I don't mean it. But with Ripley, I literally couldn't get words out. It's probably the most unfeminine sounding name I can think of.
I think it's a little better on a boy, but I still think there are 1000s of better names out there.
Edit: for typo

Not to mention...
It also reminds me of ripply, an adjective that I'm sure no one wants to be described with.

I agree too. So unpleasant.
I agree.
Ripley, not a good name for anyone.
I don't like it. It's a very very well known city where I'm from.
I think Ripley is too well known as the name of a woman who fights Aliens a thousand years in the future :-o
Sorry. I just can't picture it for anything else since that's the only time I've ever heard the name!
Aside from Ripley's Believe it or Not but that doesn't feel like a name to me - it makes me think of a circus sideshow. Another not good association.

Oh yeah, it reminds me of "The Talented Mr. Ripley" as well....
made you look ;)
made you look ;)
it's also cute on a girl
It is a popular practice where I live to make the mother's / grandmother's maiden name a middle name. So I find it weird when random surnames are put in the middle-name spot. I also just don't like Ripley ... I think of the violent word "rip", and of Jack the Ripper.

Ew, that's a horrible association! One to add to my list of aliens and sideshows (things that come to mind when I hear the name 'Ripley').
