It just makes me think of bone marrow.
Not a fan. The sound is very unattractive.

This is going to sound hypocritical from someone who considered Morgan for a daughter, but I just don't hear anything feminine in the name. And I assume it is supposed to be feminine, right? Yeah, not really a fan...
How are you pronouncing it (I'm not sure how you pronounce Karen...it varies by accent)? I really like MAA-ren (A as in apple), could take or leave MAH-ren, and don't like MARE-in at all.
A woman I used to work with named her baby Maren - pronounced to rhyme Karen - in about 1997 or so. She picked out the name long before the birth. So I had lots of time to think about it. When I first heard it, I liked it. But after a while, it started to sound grating and harsh. Sort of a villainness name. Cruella's twin sister. I don't know where I got that idea. The same woman named her next daughter Ryan, and that didn't help me like the name Maren more. I lovehated it for many years - it has a shape I should love, so why does it irritate me? Now I'm basically neutral, but I don't find it very appealing personally.
If it were pronounced MAR-en instead, I think that's ... kind of nice. It's not easy since I think people would say MAIR-en. But people are teachable. Hm. I never thought about that before, but I think I like it prn MAR-en.

If I'm pronouncing it correctly, it sounds a bit pretentious. Like Sophia LOREN, but with an M? Is that right?
Maren, to rhyme with Karen. We met once recently and Alexander liked the name. Apparently it's the Bessie of Norway, at least according to the comment section.
The Bessie of Norway? Wha?
Check the comment section on Maren. It's called a dumb milkmaid name
Well, since I don't have an image of a dumb milkmaid to go on, I'll have to take their word for it. Maybe it's just seen differently in Norway.
It just cracked me up.
I love the comment section.

Yeah, it's an endless source of entertainment. One of my favorite comments about my own name is that it sounds like "rage hell". When I read that I was like, "Dude, I never would have thought of that, EVER." :)
I know somebody with a granddaughter named Maren...
And they say it like Karen or Sharon with an m. Which also sounds pretentious to me but not like if it was pronounced like Sophia Loren's last name. More like a fantasy-YA version of Mary.

Hmm...if it's pronounced like Karen or Sharon with an M, then it kind of reminds me of bone marrow. :/
Either way, I'm just not digging it. It's okay , but it's a nothing name. It just sits there.

it's just spineless...
I've noticed that about a lot of Mary variations. They just seem so weak and watery. Molly, Minnie, Miriam, marian to some extent, Maureen, Marilyn, Maren. About the only Mary variations I can think of offhand that dont' strike me as weak are Maria and Marina.

I like all of those names EXCEPT for Maria and Maren. Our opinions, they differ.
