I find it pretty easy to forget the game console, for a minute, in imagination. (Maybe because my whole brain is blurred from having a bad cold.) It would only take one other association - one famous character called Atari, and about 20 years, for it to become a "name." Well ... at least among Americans ... after I looked up how they named the company, I am not sure Japanese people could ever consider it namey. That takes away from the cool factor IMO. But I do agree it has a nice sound, sort of expansive... I think it sounds masculine though. As a feminine name I think it'd seem sort of sharp and stabby, or like ancient Egyptian (I'm thinking of Nefertari).
