I think its nice enough, but rather old fashioned. I also don't particularly like any of the nicknames (Dotty, Dolly etc.). I would therefore probably use it as a middle name only.

I prefer Dorothy. But if I was going to use it as a first name, I'd go for Dorothea so I could use the nickname Thea.
