What do you think of Melanie? Do you think it's too boring?
I've asked on another message board before and many people told me they find it trashy. Do you think so? If so why? I wonder whether Melanie Griffiths might have given the name a negative image or whether there's another negative association.
I had two Melanies in a class at one point so growing up I thought of it as common but I've hardly met any since. I guess Mel is avoidable (I don't really care for it much) as the two Melanies I grew up with were never called Mel, even though one was called Mellie.
What else does it make you think of? Gone with the Wind? I don't particularly care for the character but I guess the association isn't too strong.
It was a bit more common in the 70s so I wonder whether people see it as dated. Or can you see it rising again soon?
