Definitely the Liesl spelling. Liesel reminds me of diesel fuel. Plus, whenever I can legitimately get away with unusual spellings (like Dmitri, Laetitia and Liesl) I'm drawn like a moth to the flame.
"Matilda and Liesl" are a darling pair. "The Sound of Music" made Liesl well known in the U.S. I see no problems. (I live in the U.S. for what it's worth.)
