when taught in school...In America, teachers tell us to pronounce the double 'L' (ll - ay-yay) as a 'y' sound. We generally taught Spain's version of Spanish (I don't know if this changes anything) but I have a lot of Mexican friends and they pronounce the double 'L' as a 'y' as well ex:llama = ya-mah

I've heard that it can actually be pronounced in a few different ways, like j, a soft g, sh/ch, y, or as an ly, but usually as a y/ee/i sound. Like in tortilla.
