I realize everyone here will hate Emily as a first name, but what about it as a middle name? I've really warmed up to it, and I'd like to use it to honour my Nanny Millie. What FN would you pair with it?

Gladys EmilyThis was one of my top combos a long time ago, when I started getting into really retro names: Florence, Gladys, Gloria, Hazel, Helen, etc. I realized Gladys needed something to calm its potential dated-ness.
I originally had Gladys Emma as a combo, but after a while I found the look of it to be off. Then I came up with Gladys Emily, and it stayed in my Top 10 for a while.

I don't hate it at all. It is a common name, but it's much better (in my opinion) to use a nice, pretty common name rather than an ugly made-up name in an attempt to be unique. I think it makes a nice middle name. I might pair it with Julia or Katherine.

I don'tI think it's sweet. I do the same thing with Emily as I do with Amanda-- I don't think about how common it is and instead picture it on a pioneer girl. Like Little House on the Prairie style. Then it becomes awesome.That said, I do really like it as a middle name. It's really upbeat, and I think it goes well with something a little older sounding. Brightens it up. Like Agnes Emily or Fern Emily. But I also like it with other cute stuff like Johanna Emily and Téa Emily.

It's boring, and using it as a middle name doesn't change that. What about Emmeline instead, or Emilia? I would probably pair Emilia / Emily with a longer FN and Emmeline with a shorter one.

I fail to see how Emily honors Millie unless Millie is your grandma's nickname. It's a stretch even at that.I don't like it as a first or middle name. You must not be pronouncing it the way I am, then. If you take the "e" out of Emily, you have Mily, aka Millie. I fail to see how it's a stretch. My other options are Emilia, Camille, Camilla, or Rosemary (my grandmother's legal first name was Mary, and everyone called her Mild Red or Rosie because of her hair colour). I can't use Mildred or Millicent because my grandmother vocally hated both of those names.

I don't hate Emily as a first name. I've never known any so it doesn't seem over popular to me. However, it's very fresh as a middle name.Here are some combos...Judith Emily

Georgiana EmilyFor some reason, it seems to suit Puritan-esque names especially well, at least in my mind.

Uhm no, why should anyone hate Emily? It's not McKynzzeelynne. I never had the impression that people hated it.I love it, but it's way too common as a first name. I like it as a middle name. My favorite combo is Meadow Emily.

Lmao. Well, I feared it would be perceived as too common for anyone in their right mind to use. :P But I'm glad someone else loves it. I really like Meadow Emily.
