Is Shiloh usable for a boy? WDYT of the name? Combos?

I think it's usable for a boy most definitely, though I also like it for a girl. I think it's nice, I love the meaning, but it's also got a feeling of honor and sadness to it cause of much of the history. It's cute enough to work on a kid though, without that hanging over it.

I think it sounds like a dog name. I can't really imagine it on a human.

Yes, I think so! Shiloh is one of the few names I like equally for both genders. I think it's a soft, gentle name, and it's adorable on a boy. To bring out its masculine qualities, I think it needs to be paired with a more "macho" middle name.

I don't get that vibe at all.
These days, I am not sure sounding like a dogs' name is bad for a person anyway. Most of the dog people I know prefer their dogs to people and rarely speak of anything else or notice the details of a person's life to any degree near their dog's. It's something I find a bit... yeah. The same could probably be said of cat people, though, but probably not to the same degree. It's as if some people immerse themselves in their pets and stick their head in the sand when it comes to humanity.
Okay, I am done ranting now.

It makes me think of two things. The song "Shiloh" by Neil Diamond.
Shiloh when I was young

It seems that in the song, Shiloh is the imaginary playmate of a lonely boy who has no friends, and Shiloh is a girl.
And then there's the Civil War Battle of Shiloh. I can just see in my mind's eye all of the Southern families who had a tintype of their poor dead son Willie on the mantelpiece, and how they'd repeatedly tell people that Willie was killed at Shiloh.
So Shiloh has a very sad aura to me.

I've only known girls named Shiloh, but it's unisex so it could work on a boy. I don't like it that much, but it has a nice sound.

I was actually going to ask about this name too, as I've been thinking about it lately. I however, only like it for a girl. I do think it's quite nice and I love the meaning 'tranquil'.
