I like Aurora. It's one of my favorite names.

I think it is a classy name. I like the meaning "goddess of the dawn". Rory or maybe Lorie would be a cute nn. I think the full name can be a little hard for small children to say.But I like Aurelia (golden) or Roxana (dawn) better, b/c they have only one R. The R-sound is a bit harsh imo. But this may be just me. Why does your mother hate it, too unusual?"But it’s all right now.

I like it, but I find the two Rs really, really hard to say.

Nice, but nms. It has a certain trendy appeal right now. I prefer Aurelia.

I love both Aurora and Aurelia... what do you like for a middle name for these two names? And does Rorie sound more masculine or feminine?

I find it hard to come up with a mn for Aurora.
I'm not sure if I'm all that fond of the nn Rorie, though I'm not sure if I'd really care if anyone called her that, but I'd just stick with Aurora.

It's too "Disney princess" for me. And many are using it today with the nn Rory, which I dislike, because I love Rory for a BOY. :b~Heather~

I side with your mom on this one. It reminds me of dirty elementary school aged girls with negligent parents. It's kind of a beautiful name for lazy people: a lot of syllables, ends in an "ah" sound, not very original. It's one of those names that I just don't like, kind of like Gabrielle and Brianna. Also it's reminiscent of Buick.

Aurora is the sound a dog makes (OH-ROH-RUH--whenever the name is mentioned, my mum'll say it like that!), and it's also a city in the land of the Flatlanders. Thanks to those two facts, I cannot fathom why anyone would like the name. However, if you do like it, that's that. You mum doesn't need to--it's not like anyone's holding a gun to her head and forcing her to write it on a birth certificate.Array

Mister, I ain't a boy--no I'm a man,
And I believe in a promised land.

I've really come to like Aurora, I think it's beautiful, royal, and elegant! I love the nickname Rory or Rora or Auria is also beautiful though this name doesn't really need a nickname at all! :)It's too bad that your mom doesn't like it. I know I love my mom but we sometimes have very different tastes in names though we usually like about the same things. It's rather odd. But be assured that even if your mom doesn't really like the names you end up using for your kids she'll still love them and you for who they are (or you are) and then I'm pretty sure she'll start to like their names more too! :)

Ya, for sure about my mom. When my brother named his youngest son Malcolm, both my parents hated it, but now they couldn't imagine him with any other name. Same when my sister named her youngest son Kohl. My parents hated this spelling at first, but now they don't mind it so much.

I love Malcolm & Kohl!Kohl is a guilty pleasure of mine since I like shopping at the store Kohl's and I do love the name Cole! Malcolm is so nice, I love Scottish names! :) Cheers!

Sleeping Beauty, I think, is what has caused this to be so popularI love it, but I wouldn't use it. Rora is a cool nickname, too. I second Bear - Aurelia is a bit better.

I love the ancient images is conjures up. What I don't love is the boyish nn Rory. I'm not against boyinsh nns per se. But a lot of people are hearing the name Rory for the first time and I want to keep it decidedly in the boy's name camp. I prefer Aurelia.
