[Opinions] Westley
I kind of like Wesley and West for a boy. It then occured to me that I could use Westley and call him West for short. WDYT?Do you pronounce Wesley and Westley the same?
Wesley or Westley?Would you say Wesley is common? I've only met one but according to statistics it's used quite a bit.West or Westley?

Wesley's kinda nice. Not a fan of Westley though... I'd prn them differently. Wesley doesn't seem all that common. It's around, but not overused... may be regional though. Could use Wesley w/ nn West since nns don't have to be exactly like the names... If people can ad y or ie to shortened versions of names to form a nn, there's no reason a t couldn't be added instead. Westley just doesn't look or feel right though.

I like Wes, West, Wesley, and Westley. I pronounce Wesley and Westley a bit different. I think I like Westley a bit more. I have a baby cousin named Knox Wesley, his uncle is David Wesley and his grandfather is Walter Wesley and his uncle was Wesley but that's a bit different because it was one Wesley and then a lot of generations using it as a middle name. I only actually have met one person whose first name is Wesley and I know there is a teacher at my school named Wesley but I don't know him.

I associate Westley very strongly with The Princess Bride, but I love that movie, so I can't say that really bothers me. It's not bad. I don't love it, but there are far worse names out there. Westley, nn West, is fine. Of course, I think Wesley, nn West, would be fine too. Do you pronounce Wesley and Westley the same?
No. I definitely pronounce that T in Westley.Wesley or Westley?
Wesley. Would you say Wesley is common? I've only met one but according to statistics it's used quite a bit.
I've only met one, too. It doesn't seem popular to me. West or Westley?
West. West or Wesley?
Wesley. The more I type it, the more awkward Westley looks.

I have a 30-something cousin named Wesley. And I've met a 60-something man named Wesley. Both go by Wes. So, I'd say it's not too common at all. I pronounce Wesley and Westley a little differenly. Basically, Westley makes me feel silly when Isay it because I kind of over-enunciate the t. Weird. And a little pretentious.I don't particularly like either name. But West is really nice! I'd consider Weston nickname West. Eh? eh?

The only time I encountered Westley was in a book about the serial child-killer Westley Dodd. Not a good association at all, but maybe a lot of people don't know about him?I think I know one Wesley, or at least a Wes. He's probably fifty. For all I know Wesley isn't his name.Ha, just remembered: a few years ago our local TV station had this goofy weather guy who was always talking about "westly winds" because he couldn't or wouldn't pronounce westerly right.I'd just go with Wesley. Westley, I think, would sound the same, and West as a first name is tryndee and dumb.

...and Princess Buttercup. This name will *always* make me think of "The Princess Bride". That's not necessarily bad , but there ya go.I don't like the NN West. I sort of pronounce Wesley and Westley the same, but I put a bit of the "T" in Westley, even if you can't really hear it. I don't prefer one over the other, and I think Wesley is more common than Westley.

I only know of one Wesley/Westley myself, so I wouldn't say that it's common.I prefer Westley, because I like the tiny bit of 't' that comes out when I say it. (So, therefore, yes, I say them differently, but only slightly so.) I like the nickname West, too. I would choose Westley, nn West. Good idea! It's nice to have a nickname and a first name that you love.

I love Westley for a boy, there's a character Westeley in the film and book The Princess Bridew, he's very likeable. I think West would be a brilliant nickname as well.

Westley would have a little bit of annunciation behind the t, but I like the sound of that better than Wesley. So I'd pick Westley, and West is a really cute nickname!

I really like Wesley, but I don't like Westley or West. Sticking that T in there sure makes a difference--Westley just seems dumb and pretentious.I don't pronounce Wesley and Westley the same....Wesley has no T sound in the middle and Westley does.I've only known one Wesley, my daughter's fiance, but the only way to really tell is the popularity charts.

Well, I do really like The Princess Bride, so that gets Westley a bonus point. However, I don't like either Wesley or Westley. I try to stick the t in there for Westley when I say it. It's hard, it's against my accent. :P I like Wes better than West. Wes has a down-home country sort of feel and West has a pretentious feel. I've only ever met on Wesley, went to school with him, but I've seen others of various ages around.
