Archibald just sounds like an insult. Like you said itchy balls. It also sounds like "aren't you bald?" I don't see appeal in a name that ends in bald. I think Archibald and Archie are too old though I guess that is because I live in the U.S. and no body has been called Archie in like 50 years.
Abraham sounds really handsome. I get that it is a big name and so grown up sounding but I think Archibald is exactly the same in that respect. I think a baby Abraham would be marvelous. I love the nicknmae Abram and Bram is nice too. That also takes away the bigness of the name and makes it more suited for a child and doesn't have so many teasing factors.
