[Opinions] more on the name and the meaning
in reply to a message by Llewella
It was my username ages ago after I met a girl named this and liked it. I tried to get more information on it. Nameberry says it means "war horse" but that's probably wrong. I got this when I posted on the name facts board and it makes sense to me:
Destry is a small commune in the Moselle region not far from Metz. This may be the origin of the surname, which shows up in French records as far back as 1606.
Other 17th-century spellings are d'Estree and D'Estrie, which makes me think it's probably related to the French word for east, and isn't connected with destrier, which is an Old French Latin-derived term for a warhorse.
Just in case anyone's interested ;)

That was me - glad I made sense.:)
Objectively, I think Destry has an attractive sound. But it was a man's surname, in the film, and it starts with Des, so it seems kind of masculine. The only girly association I can come up with for it is that it looks a little bit like Destiny! - and that ruins it for me.

Ahhhhh thanks :)
The only Destry I know is female so I guess that's why it seems feminine to me.
