Help[Opinions] Hermione?
What do you think of Hermione? Is it too long? Too hard to say? Would you have to correct people, as most seem to pronounce it Her-MY-nee (shudder). If you like it, what would you pair it with in a combo? Thanks in advance!

I think it's ugly actually. It's like someone tried to feminize Herman (which isn't particularly attractive to begin with) and not in a pretty way... and the modern pop-fiction association would cheapen it for me even if I did like it.

Hermione is one of my loves. Definitely not too long nor too hard to say (although I'm in Australia, so British English). Even if it were a little difficult to say, people get by with names that are a little confusing at first. Everyone in her immediate circle would be an old hand at it and most others would at least have heard the name in passing. My Hermione combo is Hermione Winter. :)

I love it. I have met a Hermione who was 15. I don't think you'd have to correct people very often because Harry Potter has made this name more recognisable.
The only problem I have is that it is rather long and there aren't realy any nicknames which are as lovely as Hermione. Herm or Hermy are awful. Mia might work, but it doesn't do justice to Hermione! Ione is nice but I'm not sure if it works because Ione isn't pronounced the same as the end of Hermione.
I would probably use Hermione as a middle name. I like the combo Freya Hermione, Eve Hermione and Luna Hermione (although the last one is probably a no-no!).

I like it. It's very pretty, and it has great literary associations. I don't think you would have to correct people on the pronunciation so much, thanks to Harry Potter. :)

Hermione is a bit of a favorite around here. I love it, but my SO thinks I'm crazy for it. The pop culture connection means that most people know how to pronounce it (yay!). I don't think it's too long at all.
My personal favorite combo is Hermione Catherine, followed closely by Hermione Ann.

I think you could get away with Hermione Rose. Rose isn't exactly a major character and since Rose is such a common middle name, people probably wouldn't notice (I didn't!).
Also I think steph_brown meant that her favourite name is Harry, so she couldn't use Hermione as well. Just missed out a comma, which confused me for a sec as well. But if you read it back with a comma between Harry, Hermione, it makes more sense :)

Yay, another Hermione enthusiast! Thanks for the combo suggestions. However, when I have watched Harry Potter, it seems like most of the main actors are going for the pronunciation Her-MY-nee. I was actually shocked when, on the first part of "The Deathly Hallows", the Minister of Magic, Scrimgeour, actually pronounced it Her-MY-uh-nee.

I love it! Thanks to Harry Potter, most people know how to say it, and I think that makes it a lot more usable. You may have to correct people if they leave out the "o", but they shouldn't take too long to pick it up.

Thanks for the combo suggestions-a lot of these I wouldn't have even thought of. As for the pronunciation thing, it seems like everyone I know pronounces it Her-MY-nee-it really annoys me.

Well, I'm in America, and a lot of people here pronoune it Her-MY-nee. I do pronounce it Her-MY-uh-nee, and my family actually looks at me funny when I do this. *sigh*. Thanks for the combo suggestion!
