Well, some people like it, but I think a number of people would find it rather ugly. I do. Similar category to Ethyl, but not quite as bad. Nn Edie redeems it somewhat. It feels kind of awkward too. Maybe it's the d and th together... Perhaps subconsciously a little too close to death in its sound...

My daughter thinks so. DH's stepmother was Edith Elizabeth, though she didn't use either of them, and we gave our daughter Elizabeth as a mn. She has never stopped thanking us for not going the Edith route instead!

Really? Of all names to hate, it's Edith? Why is it so bad? I don't understand.
It's just ugly and frumpy. Doesn't sound very nice. Same category as Ethel. Very few names can pull off the th sound in the end or middle position and sound good to my ears as well as some others. That doesn't mean that YOU can't like it. It's just really unappealing to a number of ears.
