I prefer to leave it as a surname.

Opps, reply to main post...For some reason I think of a actor/movie connection, but I don't know what. Besides that, I do agree it's not the greatest sounding name, not sure if I would use harsh though. I don't hate it, and Vaughn may be a few steps up the totem pole. I don't mind surnames as first names in some cases, but do agree Vance seems to sound better as a surname.

My friend has a story where the main character is called Vance Trojanowski. It's a pretty good name, but I prefer Vaughn.

It's okay-it's not really my style, probably because it's one syllable. One syllable names tend to sound a little harsh to me. On a side note, a had a history professor named Vance-an all-around great guy.

Not a fan. It has that really unattractive nasally sound when you say it. It's very harsh. It has an immature feel to it. There's a place I drive by all the time (in a really ugly weird building) that makes headstones called "Vance Ferguson," so I associate it with that too.

Lily is my username. Please do not use it!

I have always liked this name but it would need to be with something simple (imo) because it's a standout name and could look like youre trying too hard if paired with multiple middle names or something really long. There is a street in my city called "Vance Jackson" if it werent for that association I would say it works well together as a name.
