Lately I've been liking Hugo, and that's lead me to beginning to consider Hugh. What do you think of Hugh? Does it sound dated? Could it come back? Which do you prefer between Hugo and Hugh?

I don't like it. It sounds like a sneeze to me. I like Hugo more.

I prefer Hugo.

Hugh sounds too much like "huge".

When my Aunt was pregnant, my Uncle joked that they were going to call the baby Hugh Mungus *lastname*...

I'm in the US and as crazy as this may make me sound, I just think some names sound better in the UK. Hugh is one of those names. Cosimo, Beatrice, Gordon and Ann are all examples of this as well.

Hugo has the UMPH that isn't present in the name Hugh when said in a US accent.

I find them both unattractive... I lean towards Hugh feeling more dirty old man-ish though with Hugo a bit more little boy.

It certainly does not sound dated. I love it, actually, though I don't much think of it. I prefer Hugh to Hugo.
