Help[Opinions] Cathleen/Kathleen nicknames
I'm being honored again*! Sort of. My cousin and his wife are naming their soon-to-be daughter Cathleen after a) our grandmother Kathleen, b) me, Catalina, and c) her sister Kathryn. They are, however, stumped on a nickname, and they think Cathleen is a bit of a mouthful (I don't agree, but it's their baby). Grandma goes by Kathleen (except by the youngest kids, who call her Grandma Lala), Kathryn is Kathy, and I often go by Line (leen) or Lina. They like Catie, but are worried about people assuming it's Katie and short for Katherine or even a Kathleen with a K. Is Catie a good nickname? Or will it cause problems?
*By the way, little Skye Catalina (BA below) is doing well and is a very smiley, happy baby.

I totally agree. They're already going with the unconventional Cathleen so Catie shouldn't be any more problematic. BTW, I'm starting to really like the nn Cat.

Aw, I love Cathleen. I used to know the coolest girl with this name (spelling, too).
Catie is cute, imo, and it's not the end of the world to have to correct people's assumptions, though it can be tiring. If they want a nn that will never be spelled with a K or mistaken as a short form of Katherine/Catherine, they had better focus on the "-leen" part of the name for a nn. If they don't want to duplicate Lina, I'm not sure what's left. Lee? Maybe Cailee or Callie?

I think people will assume it's spelled Katie, but I don't really see that as a huge problem. Eventually, people will just get used of using Catie with a "C". I went to high school with both a Catie and a Katie. Catie was short for Catherine, and Katie was short for Kathleen. I think the bigger issue, which may or may not have been an actual issue, was that I thought their names were just Catie or Katie all through high school.
Ultimately, Catie is a fine nn! I know my former high school classmates loved being called Catie and Katie but hated being called Catherine and Kathleen! ;)

I think Catie would be just fine as a nickname for Cathleen. I knew a Catie in high school whose full name was Catherine if I remember correctly. I don't think that her name caused very many problems. Some people might think that it's spelled Katie at first, but people who know her will catch on eventually. It's not that unusual of a spelling.
