[Opinions] Marianne
Now here is a name you never hear on a newborn. What is your opinion? Do you have some combos using Marianne? Do you prefer it to: Marian, Marion, Mary Anne?
Replies
The only Marianne I ever knew was a lovely girl. Soft spoken and kind she was really the sweetest thing. Because of her I like the name more than I would have otherwise.
I definitely prefer it to Mary Anne and Marion and it seems a completely different animal than Marian wich always makes me think of Marian Anderson.

I love it. There are several Mariannes in my family tree, and in my generation there's my cousin Marion, who is awesome, so I like that a lot too. In fact, they're all great and I'd be happy to see more of them.
I really like Marianne, thanks for reminding me by bringing her up! The Counting Crows song "Butterfly in Reverse" always starts playing in my head when I hear or see the name Marianne, as a Marianne (maybe Mary-Anne) is mentioned several times. :)
I like Marion, Mary-Anne, and Marianne spelt as Marienne as well. I may actually move this to my short list of names that I would use on a real child. I'm not sure if it would flow well with my surname or not. Maybe Marianna would be better. Hmmm...
ETA: In the song it is spelt as Maryann.

I like it but I don't have any combos. I prefer it Mary Anne.
I really like Marianne, I think it's very a pretty name. I also like Marion, which strikes me as a little more 'sensible' than Marianne.
heheheh...well as we all know, Marianne ought to have been more sensible :)
I like Marianne. I like how there is lots of nickname possibilities, like when a child is young, you can call them Annie or something. I like Marianne better than Marian, Marion and Mary Anne. I think it works nice as a middle name.

Sorry, I'm not great at combos...like any, though?

I adore Marianne! It's such a sweet, mild-mannered, soft-with-a-touch-of-brassiness name. While I also love Marian and Marion, I think I prefer Marianne.

I like Marianne better than any of those other names, especially Marion which I consider a bit dated.
I quite like the fact that Marianne has a lot of nickname options: Annie, Mary, Maria, Rianne, Mia, Mara....
I also like Marianna.

I like it. The dated-ness makes it seem down-to-earth rather than frumpy. I'm not a big fan of names ending in -anne, but that's a personal thing...
I like Marion > Marian > Marianne > Mary Anne.
I like Marion > Marian > Marianne > Mary Anne.
I like the sound of Marianne the best, followed by Mary Anne, Marian, and Marion.
It's a pretty name, and it maintains a sense of uniqueness by combining two otherwise common names.
