Despite the age difference, their differing fields of profession and the fact that Ivy is Vincent's second wife, the two are very happy together. Ivy's parents are happy she's finally found someone - her mother in particular. Ivy's never understood why her parents don't understand that her studies and academia always come first - in fact, her love life has never been thriving but she tells herself it's because she's never made it her priority. Her friends are less forgiving of Vincent's flaws and history, but she's not going to let that get between her relationships with either party. It's just that sometimes it feels that they think that she got married so that she wasn't the last single friend left. She knows that isn't the case. In any case, this year the couple decide to go on holiday - take a break from the stress of home, friends, family and work. They go to Italy for two weeks, Vincent never having visited there and Ivy being a sucker for all things Latin, Roman, and, for that reason, Italian. They spend a few days in Rome before heading to Florence and Verona for a week respectively. They return refreshed and, in Ivy's case, sunburnt and resolve to return again one day.
Year #2: Yet more travelling for the Nyströms! This time to China. It was a bit of a spur of the moment decision, really. They weren't going to go on holiday this year, but Ivy was getting bogged down in the stresses of life, and they both thought a break would do them some good. Of course, neither seems to do things by half, and bustling China is neither near nor the picture of relaxation one might desire. Nonetheless, they got it into their heads and off they went. Vincent in particular found it interesting, but Ivy found some elements a little bewildering.

Helena invites Katharina to a cooking demonstration at one of Munich’s popular new restaurants in order to welcome her to the city. The cooking demonstration – “French Cuisine Made Easy” – is run by the dashing head chef Jakob Autenberg. Jakob spends a lot of time at Katharina and Helena’s cooking station, because Katharina turns out to be a rather helpless cook. However, Jakob admires her sense of humor even though she does blacken the filet mignon. After the demonstration, Katharina and Helena stay to help clean up, and Jakob brews coffee and offers them slivers of Bundt cake. Over coffee and cake, the trio discuss their lives and slide into friendship. Helena leaves shortly thereafter – she has a dog at home that needs his evening walk – but Katharina and Jakob talk long into the night. They agree to meet twice weekly for dinner and coffee, and Jakob proposes after a mere four months of dating. The couple marries at Christmastime, with Helena as the maid of honor.

He joyfully prepares nutritious meals that cater to her eccentric cravings. She wants ginger one day, garlic the next; pasta with pickles on Tuesdays, pine nuts with egg salad on Fridays. On September 12th, Katharina gives birth to Nicolas Emil, who weighs in at 9 pounds, 4 ounces. Jakob’s meals have surely contributed to the buxom baby’s generous proportions; but Jakob has contributed to more than the baby’s size – the baby has also inherited Jakob’s looks. Jakob and Katharina personally ask Helena to be Nicolas’ godmother, and she happily accepts.

This year we decided to adopt. We were expecting a baby or toddler, but we got a call about a 17-year old boy. We knew we couldn't leave him, so Hikaru Itsuki from Japan, where we live, was welcomed into our family. He's very handsome with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He's a great at guitar. He loves Flora and she loves him back.

We decided to adopt again! This time a three year old boy from eastern Africa was welcomed into our family. He has dark skin, brown eyes and black hair. He was called Kato, for he had a twin brother born before him, but he did not survive past the age of one. We renamed him Benjamin Kato. He loves playing with Flora and he wants to do everything Hikaru does. His absolute favorite food is apples.

Alex and Ben are Americans living in China, both finding the culture fascinating.
1. Fire: There was a fire in the building we live in, luckily our stuff wasn’t damaged but we had to stay with friends for a few days.
2. This year we were involved in a car crash. I broke a leg and Ben broke a couple fingers
3. Injury: Ben fell off a ladder and this year it was his turn to have a broken leg.
4. Finally some good news, this year we welcomed our first child - a daughter. She has wavy brown hair and brown eyes. We named her Isabella Claire.

Alasdair and Cora decided to adopt a three-year-old girl from France. Amélie Claudette has blue eyes and curly blonde hair. Her parents died in a car crash before her first birthday, and her grandmother is now unable to care for her.

Once Amélie opened up to her new family, she told them that she had a cousin who was also in her grandmother's care. When Alasdair and Cora learned that Amélie's grandmother had passed away, they adopted her cousin immediately. Six-year-old Fleur Isabelle has straight blonde hair and grey eyes.
Year 7:
The McBrides took a road trip around the U.K. to show Fleur and Amélie more of their new home country.
Year 8:
Alasdair and Cora were made godparents to Isla Ruby Fraser, the newborn daughter of Cora's life-long friends Oliver and Katherine Fraser.
Year 9:
Fleur had been interested in learning how to ride horses, so Alasdair and Cora bought her one for her ninth birthday. Fleur named the horse Maximus, but she mostly calls him 'Max'.
Year 10:
The McBrides welcomed their fourth child, another girl. Nora Vivienne has curly red hair and grey eyes. Fleur, Amélie, and Gemma were thrilled to have another sister.
Year 11:
The McBrides adopted a salamander, which Gemma named Sparky.

It's been a sad year, especially for Julia, as her only sibling passed away. Her sister, Elisabeth, got hit by a drunk driver and did not servive the crash. We traveled to Virginia, where she had lived, for the funeral. Elisabeth's husband, Miles, was devastated and he was left with their 2 month old daughter, Claudia. Miles and Claudia now live in the same neighborhood as us in Mexico, so now they're less lonly.

Miles was thrilled to see we named our daughter after his wife, and Claudia must be happy to have some playmates. Both girls are very outgoing, though Evelyn's more girly and Anneliese is more of a tomboy. She loves soccer already, and Evelyn is intrested in dance. They love to play dress up and usually they play "Family". Evelyn's always the mom and Anneliese is always the dad.

We had such a great experiance adopting, we decided to adopt another one. This time a boy from the U.S. Jack Benjamin is a 5 year old boy. He's very, very shy and pretty sensitive. He loves dinosaurs and painting. He's very smart and can't wait for the upcoming school year. It took a while for him to get used to Evelyn and Anneliese's loudness, but he's alright now. Jack has blonde hair and brown eyes.
