Duke Alfons & Duchess Marie knew that one day their children would have to wed; they just didn't think it would be so soon and that just as one got married another surprised them with an engagement.
Alfons, as the Emperor's son-in-law, had begun undertaking diplomatic missions and often took his eldest two daughters, Katharina and Margarethe with him to broaden their education. While on one such mission Alfons noticed that Manfred, the new Count of Waldentrap-Essen had taken an interest in the beautiful Katharina.
Manfred, much like Alfons, had come to his title by favour moreso than birthright but also the lands under his sovereignty were much more vast and important than the mere title of Count would suggest. Alfons saw an opportunity to set Katharina up in a marriage that would bring material security and hopefully happiness.
Katharina wasn't at all interested in Manfred, she found him to be too effeminate for her liking but out of love and respect for her father decided to accept the proposal.
Manfred was well connected by marriage and blood to several important sovereigns and heir to thrones. His best man was Pierre-Joseph, the Premier Prince of Francia, heir to the esteemed Kingdom of Francia and Manfred's cousin. Katharina choose her sister Margarethe as her maid of honour.
At the wedding Margarethe and Pierre-Joseph flirted a lot, almost shamelessly in fact. During the ceremony they made shocked everyone when Pierre-Joseph stopped the priest and proposed to Margarethe. Margarethe instantly said yes and took all the attention off of her sister.
Manfred and Katharina went off on their honeymoon, with Katharina vowing not to speak to her sister or take part in her wedding because she took the attention off of her.
