[Opinions] Schuyler, Skyler, Skylar
I used to love this name a long time ago. I prefer it on a girl. I like Skyler best, I think. The other two are nice, but I guess Schuyler would be mispronounced and in Skylar the A sticks out so much. I remember this name and Sky, Skye being talked about so much in the late 90s, I had the feeling it was really common back then, but it never made the top 100.1. Which spelling is your favorite?
2. Which spelling looks girly and which one masculine?
3. Do you think Schuyler would cause pronunciation troubles?
4. If I wanted to use Sky as a nickname, do you think Skyler and Skylar would be better than Schuyler?
5. How many do you know? Do any go by Sky?
6. Do you think it will get more common?

1. Which spelling is your favorite? Skylar! :) It makes me think of skylarks.2. Which spelling looks girly and which one masculine? They all look masculine to me.3. Do you think Schuyler would cause pronunciation troubles? Definitely. I remember the first time I saw this name... xD "Shoe-yuh-ler? Skoo-yuh-ler?" 4. If I wanted to use Sky as a nickname, do you think Skyler and Skylar would be better than Schuyler? Yes, but I think once people realize "Schuyler" is pronounced like Skyler and Skylar, the kid would probably get called Sky once in a while.5. How many do you know? Do any go by Sky? I know one Skylar, a boy. He usually goes by his full name, but sometimes, he gets called Sky by his best friends.6. Do you think it will get more common? I don't think it will get insanely popular, no. I think it will stay where it is, mostly because it probably isn't girly or boyish enough for a top 40 spot. The name Sky, after all, was never extremely popular; however, because it sounds similar to Tyler, which is a pretty common name, I don't think it will fade out in the near future.

1. My favorite spelling is Schuyler, probably because it's the most legit, followed by Skylar. Also, I prefer this name for a boy.
2. I guess Skylar looks the girliest and Schuyler looks the most masculine, but none of them look particularly feminine to me.
3. Schuyler would probably have some issues with pronunciation, yes.
4. Any of them would be fine for the nn Sky.
5. I don't know any.
6. I don't think it will become more common.

1. Skyler is my favourite. I see it as a masculine name, with Skyler and Schuyler being the masculine spelling, and Skylar being more feminine.
2. Oops. See above.
3. I do. I've had pronunciation problems with Casey. Actually, I just had pronunciation problems with my name, Caitlin, the other day, so who knows. I don't think it's such a big deal though - if people can name their children M'haddysyn, then Schuyler shouldn't be off limits, by any means.
4. I don't really think it matters. Wouldn't Schuy be pronounced the same?
5. I know one Skylar, girl. I have met three boy Skylers, and one boy Skylar. Never a Schuyler. I'd love to use it on our next boy, but I don't think Rob will go for it, at all.
6. I have no idea.

For a girl, Skylar
I think the A makes it more feminine - makes it look lighter, sharper, aerodynamic. Skyler looks too simple to me, like a phonetic spelling of Schuyler. For a boy, Schuyler
I don't think it'd be mispronounced; it's not that uncommon. It looks very manly.
I think you can use Sky as a nick for Schuyler - with those spellings. No problemI don't know anyone with the name. I don't think it'll get more common, but it might seem like it does as the 90s Skys grow older.

1. Schuyler. It looks better than the others.
2. Schulyer looks feminine; Skyler/Skylar look masculine.
3. If it does, you can always correct them. It's not that hard of a name for people to get the hang of.
4. I think you could still use Sky for Schuyler. Not every nickname matches the first name perfectly (Margaret = Peggy, for example.)
5. I know a couple of grade-school kids named Skyler/Skylar. Not too many, but they are out there.
6. Probably.

I'm not a big fan of Schuyler, as a spelling. Not sure why. On the other hand, it has a less made-up, more authentic feel than the other two options. I once knew a boy with this name, he'd be in his early 20's now. Also, knew a girl named Skye, who would also be in her early 20's now, so named because she was a 4th child--her middle name was Limit--for "sky's the limit."I love the sky, in all weather, at all times of day, so I love the associations this name has. I wouldn't mind being named Sky or Skye or Skyler, etc. All the spellings seem really unisex to me, which I also happen to really like.

1. Which spelling is your favorite? Schuyler (boy)
2. Which spelling looks girly and which one masculine? I don't think any of them look feminine. They all look masculine to me.
3. Do you think Schuyler would cause pronunciation troubles? Probably. I don't think it'd be hard for people to remember that it's pronounced SKY-ler, but I do think you'll run in to issues with people spelling it wrong (forgetting the C, H or U)
4. If I wanted to use Sky as a nickname, do you think Skyler and Skylar would be better than Schuyler? I don't think it matters. I'm pretty relaxed with nicknames
5. How many do you know? Do any go by Sky? I don't think I've ever met any. I've seen more guys with this name, in all the spellings (along with Schuylar), though. I've kown one girl Sky, but that was her full name.
6. Do you think it will get more common? I'm not sure. Maybe a bit?

1. Which spelling is your favorite?
Schuyler, on a boy. Love it on a boy. Seems less trendy and cutsey than Skylar/Skyler.2. Which spelling looks girly and which one masculine?
I'd spell it Skyler or Skylar on a girl, Schuyler on a boy 3. Do you think Schuyler would cause pronunciation troubles?
I want to say no, but I do think there'd be some. But you can get prn. issues or variations with plenty of common and unusual names. For me, it's not a reason to avoid a name.4. If I wanted to use Sky as a nickname, do you think Skyler and Skylar would be better than Schuyler?
I'd use Skylar/Skyler for Sky. If I used Schuyler, I'd spell it Schuy. After all, it's prn. the same way. I think you could get away with the Sky spelling though.5. How many do you know? Do any go by Sky?
None. I know of a couple, one goes by Sky the other doesn't/ i also know a Sky and a Skye.6. Do you think it will get more common?
I'm not sure how common it is now, but it fits in with a lot of the popular names so I can see it happening.
