[Games] Nyx' One-Round-Only Create-Your-Own NTNB
This is essentially a NTNB that is done all in one round and you complete the whole family. However, in this game I will have a bank of SO's names/personalities/etc. You will team up two SOs (your choice as to genders - If you chose to use two of the same gender, assume "father" is the top SO and "mother" is the bottom SO) and place them in one of the family groups. Then, using the descriptions from the SO and from the children, you will come up with the names of the children for each family. This is not judged nor are winners selected. Have fun!Oh yeah, please feel free to add a paragraph or even a short story to each family :-DDo you enjoy these sort of NTNBs?
Does the character background help? Is it needed? Would the naming preferences be enough?

SO Name Bank:DW: Dorothea "Dottie" Katelyn Van der Berg
Dottie used to hated her name. It was a name that her grandmother loved. It was supposed to be her mother's name, but her grandfather would not allow it. And so, her mother allowed her grandmother to give her first (and only) granddaughter the first name that she loved. Dottie spent her childhood wishing that her middle name, which was super-popular and the name of every cool girl she knew/met/heard of, was her first name. She spent so much time hating her name, that she almost missed out on what made her name so perfect for her. She loved being unique, and having a name that NO ONE else in her school (not even the teachers) shared was something she treasured.Dottie loved not being "Madison G." or "Emma Rose" - having to use her last initial or middle name because she shared her first name with 3 other girls in class. (Even though Madison was the only one of the three spelled Madison, and the other two spelled their names Madisyn and Madyson - they all sounded the same and none were unique. In fact, the last two had their names misspelled more often then not, which cracked Dottie up as she didn't like either of the girls). And Dottie loved her unique nickname. It was spunky, fun, creative, and cool in an old-fashioned sort of way. In the end, Dottie decided that having such a unique name helped her become the individual she was today.Dottie decided that she wanted all of her daughters to have unique FNs with fun/spunky MNs; and that all of the FNs and nicknames would be absent from the SSA lists for at least the past 20 years. She wanted her son's to have strongly classic FNs with fun/spunk nicknames that weren't as common today. And all of her children would have at least 2 MNs, one of which could be the fall-back "popular" name that her children could chose to use if they didn't come to love their name as much as she did hers.
(Note: Please add a second MN to whatever children are in Dottie's family.)
DW: Corabel Elsie Delaney
Corabel HATED her name. Always did, and more then likely always will. She grew up in a rural area, and her best friend had a farm with a cow named Corabel and a horse named Elsie (her friend's father just always loved those names, and chose to use them because of that fact). She wished her name was Caroline Emily, and tried at one point to make her family call her that. Her family, however, was very grounded in the here-and-now and couldn't understand what calling her a different name would do... and so they just didn't bother. Corabel had dreams of moving to the big city, of changing her name when she got there, and of creating a new life. However, things just didn't work out that way.Corabel stayed in her rural life, and kept her hated name. She went to work in the local diner after high school, and took online college course. She eventually became a secretary/receptionist/nurse at the local clinic. She loved it when people started referring to her as "Ms. Delaney", and later as her married surname. While Corabel loves her life, she still relishes her old dreams of a new life in the big city. However, they are just dreams now, and she recognizes that fact. In fact, she may try and capitalize on that fact and write a novel based in part on her life.Corabel loves throughly modern names for both FNs and MNs. In fact, many of her favorites aren't even heard of in the town she lives in (she found them while browsing the internet!). Because of this, she tends to lean towards names that have roots in the classics that everybody knows (examples: Jacoby/Jacob and Brianna/Brian) or names that, while "modern", have a common nickname (Malia could use Lia/Leah as a nickname). She also loves the idea of using a surname (maybe even her maiden name) as a girls name.
DW: Gwenda Bronwen Sexton
Gwenda never really thought about her name one way of the other. It was her name, and that was that. She never understood why her best friend (Jean-Marie) obsessed over who had what name and whether it fit the person or not (friends, class-mates, celebrities, and any other name she heard!). After all, a parent gave a child there name and there was no changing it after that (at least, not without a lot of hassle and unnecessary headache). But all of that changed the moment Gwenda considered starting a family. She wondered how she was supposed to name this new life. What if the name didn't fit (like how, according to Jean-Marie, Vivienne's name did not reflect her extreme tom-boy personality)? What if she picked a name like Michael (there were 26 in her High School!), and her son's personality drowned in the shared/common name? The worry over names was almost paralyzing. Gwenda found that she couldn't even move towards starting a family, which was really frustrating her husband. Unable to understand, he finally urged her to contact Jean-Marie and talk to her about it. This was exactly what Gwenda needed. Jean-Marie talked to her about names, helped her figure out what style of names she liked, and even helped her find references to help her find more names.Gwenda found that she loves names that have a heritage or special meaning. She dug through her family tree, and found names that she liked. She pulled names out of her favorite books and music, and she even added a few that related to locations that had a special meaning to her. She's now got quite an extensive list of names, but that's just a starting point for her. She'll either use the name as is, or tweak it to something else depending on what her and her hubby like (example, Grandma Mary might be honored with Miriam as a granddaughter or Charlotte Brontë might be honored with the name Edward from the tale of Jane Eyre).Gwenda's Name List: (MUST be used in her family in each child in some way) Agnes (distant cousin) - Alexandra (aunt) - Alice (great-aunt) - Ann Radcliffe (author) - Charlotte & Emily Brontë (author) - Georgia (state - where they honeymooned) - Jane Austen (author) - Jean-Marie (best friend) - Mairead (distant cousin) - Mary (Grandma) - Natalie Maria Cole (musician) - Stephanie (friend) - Abraham (Great-great-uncle) - Buckminster Fuller (author/designer) - Charles Dickens (author) - Lord Byron (poet) - Louis Daniel Armstrong (musician) - Nathaniel Adams Coles (musician) - Robert Lee Frost (poet) - Samuel Langhorne Clemens / Mark Twain (author) - Thelonious Sphere Monk (musician) - Thomas Stearns Eliot (poet) - Tiberius (distant relative) - Wheeler (New York - where they met)
DH: Roan Demetrius Sandoval
Roan grew up knowing that his name was unusual. However, it was his name and there was no use fussing over it. His mother loved the idea of living in the country. His father wanted nothing to do with it. This caused numerous arguments between them. Pretty soon, there was a messy divorce. Roan's mother got custody of Roan and his three older sister (Daisy, Fern, and Cheyenne). They moved to the country and Roan started first grade while living in an old, needed-to-be-fixed-up house on a farm. There was a lot of work involved, but Roan was okay with that. Roan was given a horse, which he named Felipa. He used Felipa to help out, and also as a way to escape and have adventures. Roan had no clue why his father would want to stay in the city... The country was the perfect life, and Roan loved every minutes of growing up there. After graduating high school, Roan with his dad on a trip throughout Europe. He knew that this was his dad's way of temping him to a life "greater" then that found in the country. After the trip, Roan accepted his father's offer of a college education so long as he stayed in the city with him. Roan got a degree in agriculture and business. While doing so, Roan tried to enjoy all that he saw and did, but in the end followed his heart back to the country. In the end, Roan's father was okay with this, because he knew that his son had the tools he needed no matter where he was living.Roan is very ground in his naming preferences (when he even thinks about it). He likes names that were popular in the 1980's and 1990's, as well as those names that are timeless classics. He prefers floral names for girls, and strongly classic names for boys with short strong nicknames.
DH: Solomon Xavier De la Cruz
Solomon was the second child of a dozen kids, and was the oldest boy. He filled the roll of older brother, and even surrogate father to his siblings. Solomon's father died when Solomon was 19 years-old and before his last two sons (twins) were born. Even before his death, Solomon's father spent so much time away from the house working, that Solomon was having to step up and help out. This stayed true even after Solomon moved out. Solomon was still a surrogate father-figure to his numerous brothers and sisters. He spent his free afternoons taking them to soccer practice, and his weekends taking them to the movies, out roller skating, or swimming. He made sure that they all did their school work, and tried to help out with homework when he could. This was all complicated by the fact that Solomon was in college himself. For Solomon, family plays a BIG part in the names that he likes. He loves the idea of tweaking a name to honor one of his siblings. However, this would more then likely be a MN#2 position (he plans on using 2 MNs on all of his children). He loves the idea of his children's FNs having a Spanish "flair" or feel.
(Note: Please add a second MN to whatever children are in Solomon's family.)Solomon's Family at the time of his father's death: Carmen Eliana (20), Solomon Xavier (19), Belen Alicia (16), Valentina Lucia (14), Felipe Gabriel (11), Araceli Teresa & Paloma Sofia (8), Ofelia Rose (6), Maritza Grace (5), Alejandro Cristian (2), Diego Elias & Javier Michael (nb)
DH: Edgar Simeon White
Edgar was a bookworm as a child. He devoured books the way most boys his age devoured cartoons or video games. His favorite books were well worn and read more times then he could remember. The characters in them were like old friends, and he felt he knew each intimately. As he grew older, his hobbies expanded. He was still a voracious reader... but he had discovered swimming, which morphed in biking and running when he started training for his first triathlon. He graduated top of his class (in fact, he had almost the top scores for the whole city!), and with a full scholarship to his ideal college. At college, he found all new books and read through them just as quickly as when he was a boy. He majored in literature and minored in physical education. Edgar loved college so much, that he spent 6 years there just absorbing books and ideas. When he (finally) graduated, he got a job as a PE teacher in a small town on the coast of Oregon. He created a mini-triathlon for all of the students to compete in twice a year (autumn and spring). He also created an after-school reading program that students from first grade on up could attend. He loved his job almost as much as he loved books as a boy!Edgar LOVES names that relate to his favorite characters (most of which were boyhood favorites). This is kind of hard on Mrs. White, who doesn't have the same sentiments associated with the name, and finds some of them just down-right odd. However, Edgar isn't too picky about where the names end up: FN, MN or nickname. He's even open to changing the name to a more common version, or similar name, so long as HE can use the name he loves as a nickname/pet name.Edgar's Name List: (MUST be used in his family in each child in some way) Aramis (Three Musketeers) - Bastian (The Neverending Story) - Inigo Montoya (The Princess Bride) - Matrim Cauthon (Wheel of Time)- Taliesin (King Arthur Legends & Tales) - Birgitte aka: Joana, Maerion, Teadra, Birgitte Trahelion (Wheel of Time) - Éowyn (Lord of the Rings) - Galadriel (Lord of the Rings) - Gamina (Riftwar Saga) - Princesses Rhyme and Reason (The Phantom Tollbooth)
