I love Elisabeth! Especially the "s" spelling. And as for nicknames, Ellabeth is cute.

I've got a colleague named Elisabeth and pronounced Elizabeth; her nn is Lis, pronounced Liz.

Ella would work, and it's less fussy than Ellabeth. Bethan is a Welsh form of Elizabeth, as Megan is of Margaret, so that would work very well. Bethany as a nn for Bethan, yes perhaps, but Bethany has been used a lot in recent years so I'd avoid it if possible.

What about Elsabe? Pronounced EL-sa-bee, with an s, not a z; it's likely to be pretty different where you live, though here in South Africa we're all familiar with it.

Yes! My favorite spelling of Elisabeth is this one. I think the 's' is prettier than the 'z'.

I think Beth is a better NN than Bethany. Bethany is a full name itself, but Beth is more nickname-y.

I rather like Elisabeth. It's gentle and graceful. Ellabeth is cute, maybe too cute and best left as a family pet name. Bethany works, but it's a lot of effort for a nickname, because it's a whole other name in itself. I'd say Ellie or just Beth are your best bets.

I didn't used to like Elisabeth at all. It looks strange to me, and I'd pronounce it with an s and not a z. But I've come to appreciate it in certain combos where it does work better since it looks softer, or in some cases culturally it would make more sense.

Elisabeth is lovely. I would probably be more likely to use the z spelling, but both are very elegant in my view. Ellabeth and Bethany: I say no. If I had an Elizabeth, I'd call her Ella.

What about Elsabeth instead of Elisabeth, then you lose the possibility of the Liz/Lizzie nicknames?!

I REALLY love Elisabeth, it is on my top 10 list, though spelled with a Z. Ellabeth would work, yes, but it's a little too cutesy for me. I like Bethany as a nn but I do think Beth would work better.

I adore the name Elisabeth and plan to name my oldest daughter this and use Ellie as a nickname. Ella or Beth would work, but Ellabeth sounds a little too cutesy to be anything but an occasional pet name. Bethany has staying power and I think it could work too.

My personal take on nns is that they are for showing affection / whimsey. They are the place for creativity. So Elisabeth, nn Hobbyhorse, makes sense to me.
