I love the simplicity of Liv, which I pronounce exactly they way you do. Growing up actress Liv Ullman (sp?) was in the public eye, so I don't find it unusual or "just" a nn for Olivia. But I'm a namenerd and I realize the perception of Liv may be changing, at least here in the U.S. But so what? I wouldn't let it deter me from using a name I loved. I hope you don't either.
I would use the spelling Livvy or Livvie for a nn, but I don't think it needs one.
(ETA) One advantage to the shortness of Liv as a fn is that you get to have a long mn to balance it out. Liv Anastasia is my GP combo. I wouldn't advise it for a real child; everyone will assume you're a Romanov freak (Live, Anastasia, live!). But it gives you an idea of what kind of combo you could make. Just a thought.
