[Opinions] Liv
What do you think of Liv? I used to dislike it, but it has grown on me a lot. How do you pronounce it? I pronounce it like "live" (LIV), just as the LIV part in Olivia is pronounced. However I've heard people pronounce it like the word "leave" (LEEV). I dislike the LEEV pronunciation, but I've heard it's the original Scandinavian one. Does anyone know whether this is correct? I don't want to mispronounce it, but I much prefer LIV, would it be alright to pronounce it that way?
Do you think it's too short or nicknamey? Will people assume it's short for Olivia?
It's rather uncommon, but do you think there are many Olivias who go by Liv?
Do you like Livi or Livvy as a nickname? How would you spell it?

I and everyone I know pronounce it as live.
I do think it is too short and nicknamey. I've never even thought of it as a name on it's own. I always think it is short for Olivia. Yes I think there are many Olivias who go by Liv. Livi is an okay nickname. Don't spell it with two v bcause then it looks like a w.

I love it. I have a soft spot for Nordic names, and Liv is quite pretty.
Oh, I think Liv is lovely and I pronounce it the same way you do; have never heard it pronounced "LEEV" and don't care for that at all.
To me, Liv is one of the short names which feels complete on her own. Her brevity lends her spunk, but she also has elegance; I think she ages well. I would not assume Liv was a nickname for Olivia and I think there's a good chance the general public wouldn't either, as they've likely heard of actress, Liv Tyler.

I love the simplicity of Liv, which I pronounce exactly they way you do. Growing up actress Liv Ullman (sp?) was in the public eye, so I don't find it unusual or "just" a nn for Olivia. But I'm a namenerd and I realize the perception of Liv may be changing, at least here in the U.S. But so what? I wouldn't let it deter me from using a name I loved. I hope you don't either.
I would use the spelling Livvy or Livvie for a nn, but I don't think it needs one.
(ETA) One advantage to the shortness of Liv as a fn is that you get to have a long mn to balance it out. Liv Anastasia is my GP combo. I wouldn't advise it for a real child; everyone will assume you're a Romanov freak (Live, Anastasia, live!). But it gives you an idea of what kind of combo you could make. Just a thought.

Liv is actually okay, and would be great... but only on the right person. I think it's a really nice mn with so many names, but found work as a first name too. It does come across as somewhat nickname-y and will almost assuredly be mistaken for a nn for Olivia, sadly enough.
Livvy is cute, but is the kind of nickname which would look ridiculous on an adult.

I like it, but it's a little short for me to want to use.
Yes, LEEV is the Scandinavian pronunciation (for the "liv" in Olivia too, btw). But at least in Swedish that "ee" is different from the English "ee", so it doesn't sound quite the same as "leave".
I like it a lot, but because it's so short I would only use it as a middle name (or possibly as a nickname for Livia).
