Swedish fashion reporter (et cetera) Ebba von Sydow, whose blog I follow, and her husband Johan had their first child last week, and now they have decided on a name for her: Marianne.
Hmm. Marianne is a name I associate with women some years older than my parents, not with cute little babies ... It's just doesn't feel old enough to make a comeback. But I suppose it will in a decade or so, and that little Marianne is just ahead of her time. It's actually kinda cute. :) What do you think?

I'm reading Sense and Sensibility right now, which is making me very fond of the name Marianne. I don't think I'll ever like it enough to see it as usable, but its is pretty.

I can see Marianne coming back, what with Vivienne and Isabella and all of the other long, feminine names.

I love Marianne.

I've suggested it to my husband but he prefers the more modern-sounding Mariana. It's too bad - Marianne is pure, understated elegance.

Marianne will forever remind me of old sailor songs and tales in which the pretty maiden/ mermaid is often named Marianne. I like this association very much.

I agree though that it's not going to be popular anytime soon.

I don't like it. But I guess it'll grow on me just like Maj-Lis (Josefine Sundström's daughter's name) did.
