Cute, though plain, and ready for a comeback :-)
It really doesn't need a nickname though. If you do want one, I think May would be much nicer than Mab.

I think Belle would be a natural choice, but only for name-nerds, if that makes sense! It might seem contrived to others, since the "belle" in Mabel isn't stressed. Do you like Maybelle, pr'd "may-BELLE"? I think that spices the name up, and gives more nn potential :-)

I like Maybelle and I thought about Mabella too. My only concern would be the link to Maybelline or that people would think it was a creative spelling of Mabel. Do you think that is likely to happen? Also what do you think of Maybella?
Maybella is very sweet. People might think it's kre8iv, but since it could also be May + Bella, I think it seems quite classy and genuine. Equally, they might see Maybelle as May + Belle, which would make it more "real" as a name.
I see what you mean about Maybelline, but I don't think it'd cross most people's minds.
